Want to Ride?

Harris County ESD-1 believes in community education and awareness. With this belief HCESD-1 sponsors a civilian observation program, in which we allow civilians to ride along and observe the daily operation and routines of an Emergency Care Provider. We are excited about our communities' participation and evolvement with our organization. We feel our community is a vital link in the success of HCESD-1 and we hope that you will gain interest and useful knowledge from your visit. As with any organization we have a few policies and procedures we must adhere to for your protection. These can be found by clicking the link "Observer Policies". Because of insurance and liability reasons, you must be at least 18 years of age to participate in our program. Our observation shifts begin at 0600 hours each day and ends at 1800 hours.

To schedule an observer shift complete our"Observer Release Form" and "Observer Confidentiality Form", print them out, and fax them to our office. Contact the Scheduling Department by email or call (281) 449-3131 to make arrangement for your shift. The Scheduling Coordinator will answer any questions you may have and give you the date and address of the station in which you are assigned. We ask that if you have to cancel your observation shift please call our office as soon as possible.

Our "Incharge Medics" are responsible for the shift in which you are assigned and will answer any questions you may have during your shift. We ask that you follow their orders as this will keep you as safe as possible during your visit. Please make sure you understand the Observer Release Form in its entirety. The shift that you schedule has many risks associated with being an observer, including but not limited to: motor vehicle accidents, violence, and the possible transmission of diseases.

All information that you encounter as it pertains to patients and emergency calls are strictly confidential in nature and are not to be discussed outside our organization.
